An employee finds a mysterious golden sphere in the 14th century papal palace of Avignon. Some take it to be the start of the fulfilling of an even more mysterious prophecy. The Esperanza family is believed to be its guardian by destiny, not in the least Estella, who is deputy curator. Her grandpa is obsessed by the prophecy but refuses to collaborate with his brother. The haughty commissioner stupidly fails to take the Esperanza's murder suspicion seriously until forensics prove Luis was stabbed with a Gothic weapon. Estelle ignores all warnings and continues snooping for the sinister Brothers of Judas, as does Europol. After she helps professor Daniel Brac save the papal treasure from a robber, he ends up among the new victims. She teams up with archaeological site supervisor Olivier Royal.
