A half—armed, embittered beast on the loose is very scary, which is well understood by the characters of the film. It is almost impossible to catch a bear: not only is she not afraid of a person, but she knows perfectly well how to attack and how to protect herself from him. Fear for their own lives, the threat of criminal liability — this is what determines the actions of the characters throughout the film.
